my “secrets” to having beautiful hair

Hi, you guys! something I have been doing a lot of this summer, is focusing on keeping my hair and skin extra healthy, and giving them a lot more attention than I feel like I did all school year! I have always been someone who washed their hair almost every single day – and using heat on it almost every day as well, and even though I knew that doing this wasn’t super healthy, I didn’t really know any alternatives! So, if you’re in the same boat as I have been in, and you’re washing your hair every day because you just don’t know what else to do – I am here to give you advice, and share my secrets on what I have been doing to my hair!

First of all, I am only washing my hair two times a week. I know that trying to transition to this from doing it everyday seems like such a stretch, but you just have to work your way up to it – which didn’t take me that long! I follow soooo many fashion bloggers on instagram – and in all their pictures their hair is full of volume, so well styled, and shiny! A lot of those ladies too have emphasized that their hair is this healthy and shines like it does because they only wash it two times a week. Even the girls who workout 3+ days a week, like myself, they can make it work!

The biggest key in washing my hair so much less has been finding the right dry shampoo for MY hair. Forever, I was using the same old dry shampoo that left a white cast on my dark hair, really didn’t give it any lift or volume, nor the “refreshed” look I was going for! After doing some research and watching from some beauty bloggers on youtube, I was able to get a better grasp on what dry shampoo might be best for my dark, naturally oily hair! I was so excited about this discovery you guys, once I found one after watching so many videos, I went to target right away because I wanted to try it out for myself! If you have hair like mine  – you’ll enjoy the Pantene dry shampoo like I do, for an amazing hair refresh.

I also have started putting dry shampoo especially all around my scalp, before bed! This is supposed to help stop some of the oils from even getting to the top of your head, and then you’ll have to put less there in the morning!

I also recommend styling your hair with heat on the first day with your clean hair, and then try to only do touch ups on it the next couple days – this has really worked for me too! I typically wear my hair curled, but curling it everyday + blowdrying it some days can do a lot of damage and cause breakage and frizziness. My hair has felt so much better this summer, and seriously, it looks so much better, so much more full, and i know its healthier!

Do you have any healthy hair secrets?! I’d love to hear them.

Thanks for being here. love y’all! B

my Wishlist this week!

Screen Shot 2017-06-28 at 11.20.19 AM.png

Happy hump day! The long weekend is oh so close, friends. 🙂 Just wanted to share with you some pieces I have seen while browsing / online shopping so far this week and these are all pieces I have on my wishlist! All of these are super cool and trendy pieces especially for summer. Can you tell how in love i am with all the summer shoes lately?! It takes a lot of self control not to buy all the metallic platform sandals / pretty wedges because those seem to be my favorite! I have a million and one pairs of statement earrings but they too are always something that I am drawn to while shopping. I love accessories and really think that pieces like the bauble bar earrings above complete and make an outfit. Also, how cute would those new balance sneakers be with some boyfriend jeans, a red v neck and that cute fourth of july hat for next week?! eeeek!

Love always! Let me know if you have questions about where you can find any of these pieces. Xo -B

By 25…

Hi, friends! I have been thinking a lot lately with my 20th birthday coming up, about things on my bucket list I want to do check off in the next 5 years! My entire bucket list of places I wish to visit, goals I want to achieve is SO long, and for sure not manageable to be able to check them all off in 5 years, but I thought I would share some highlights and things I have been thinking about lately!

1. Visiting the Vatican / Christmas Mass – For those of you who have been following the blog or who know me, you know my Catholic faith is the center of my heart and life! The Vatican is the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church and it has been a dream of mine for quite a while to visit there { I have never been to Europe!!!! } When I plan this trip I am going to do so over Christmas, so I can go to Christmas mass at the vatican.

2. Post graduating college – moving off on my own! – My dream after graduating college { assuming I survive the studying and business classes the next three years } I would love to be able to see a different corner of the universe { in the united states 😉 – hopefully Dallas if it were completely up to me } and have some time to do some growing up and adulating on my own. I can’t imagine being away from my family and home here in MN forever – because I want to live in St. Paul forever, but I would love for a couple years to put myself out there, truly be completely independent, and escape the snow… 🙂

3. Adopt a rescue animal – Many of my friends and family have done this, and have found such sweet companions in their cats/ dogs. Not sure if it’ll be a cat or dog that will be my “first pet” outside of a family pet, but I know I want to make a difference by helping out a rescue animal!

4. Take a solo trip! – I would love to take a trip alone to the east coast – Rhode Island before I hit 25. I am someone who cherishes time alone and I truly think I need it in order to stay sane. I love my friends, family, coworkers and being around them, but I think it is essential to have some time in every day life, to decompress alone. I have heard so many people rave about going on vacation alone, and how relaxing and eye opening it is! I’ll hopefully be able to head to Rhode Island the perfect destination for my Betsy getaway….. 🙂 – I have had an odd obsession, similar to my obsession with Dallas since I was a young teen!!

5. See Mumford and Sons live – my all time all time all time favorite band, I have tried to get tickets to their shows before and they are so hard to get!! My life won’t be complete until I see Mumford live – literally all my favorite songs are written by them. I would love to be able to take a trip to somewhere in the US to see them and really make a memorable trip and experience out of it. 🙂

___________________________________________________________

I could go on, and on, and on, and on and tell you about all my hopes and dreams. Hopefully this gives you some insight onto who I am and who I hope to be in the coming years. Anybody else share any of these dreams with me?!!! Or keep a bucket list?! I’d love to hear back from you.

XO + love

10 things you can do to be a {better} friend

  1. Be a good listener – Speak your mind, and keep your friends updated in conversation about your life, but ensure that your friend knows that what they have to say matters. Just by listening to them talk about whats going on in their life or what they’re struggling with, by letting them talk to you and allowing their voice to be heard, you are showing you value them!
  2. Making time to catch up – It is so important that no matter how long it has been since you have last seen one another, you are making an effort to catch up. so even if your best friend lives on the other side of the country, if you check in on them via text/FaceTime once a week or even once a month, you guys stay connected and they know you care. for those of us who are lucky enough to be surrounded by our friends a lot of the time, it is still important that you get your one on one time whether thats over the phone or going out to lunch. Putting in this effort and voicing your care for this person can make all the difference in the world.
  3. “Thought of you” – Even something as simple and dumb as taking your bestie in a meme on Facebook  that reminds you of them, sending them a shirt you see at Nordstrom that you think they would love, or shooting them a text just to let them know you’re thinking of them, will make them smile, and again show how much you care for them — its the little things!
  4. Honesty – Honesty is the best policy for everything, including relationships! When your friend asks for your advice or opinion, be honest with them. If your friend did something to upset or offend you, letting them know by honestly admitting you are upset with them, you can address the issue and not have any bad blood between you.
  5. Acceptance – Remember to accept that not everyone thinks the same way you do, acts the same way you do, or believes in the exact same things that you do. As a friend, you need to embrace your friend for exactly who they are, what they think, what they do, and what they believe in, by doing so, you are showing that you love them!
  6. Forgiveness – Holding grudges and letting little things come between your friendship and communication will just destroy the connection and friendship you have. You have to pick your battles wisely and remember that everyone makes mistakes, and no one is perfect. If someone really matters to you, you will forgive them, and move on because your friendship is so important that nothing could ever break it apart.
  7. Help each other grow – Be encouraging, uplifting, positive, and inspire your friends to be the best they can be. By doing so, they are likely to reciprocate these actions and help you grow too!
  8. Prove you are trustworthy – Trust is a base of any relationship, without trust you have nothing! Make sure your friend feels they can trust you with anything. By trusting them and letting them into your heart and your life, they will feel loved and know that you trust them, and will likely trust you too.
  9. Be there – Whether you have a lunch date, or your friend had a bad day and wants to talk on the phone, by being there for them when they were counting on your plans, or when they really need you the most, you are showing and proving to your friend how much you really value them!
  10. “I love you” – You can never go wrong by reminding the people you love that you love them.

Being a good friend to the people I love is one of the most important things in the world to me. I want the people I care about to be constantly reminded and shown that I value them and these are some of the ways I do so — I hope you enjoyed reading this and learning more about how I try to be the best friend possible and hopefully you find a couple things you can take away from this and apply to your life as well.

All my love, friends!

dreaming of dresses

It is finally feeling like summer here in { MN } and I forgot about how much I love the sunshine, humidity, and tan that comes along with our summers here in MN. Summer is also full of so many fun events for you to dress up for. Weddings, graduations, patio dining, and weekend trips all give you so many opportunities to make a statement in a summer dress.

I personally have been loving Asos lately for meeting my needs for summer dress fun. One of my best friend’s birthday is coming up, and I will for sure be purchasing one of those dresses for her dinner! Which one is your favorite? I would love to hear your thoughts!

I am loving this print for summer, and am seeing it everywhere! Lemon is a perfect way to add some bright color to your closet, and to make a statement! The off the shoulder and neck detailing Breaks up the busy pattern and is so flattering – this dress is a great price point and so perfect for a summer night!

This dress is so different – I am in love with it! I love the detailing in the bow / knot of the front of the dress, along with the combination of the off the shoulder draping and the thicker strap to keep the dress in place – (no adjusting the off the shoulder? yes PLEASE!) this dress would be perfect for a more formal event, and is for sure a timeless piece you can keep in your closet and wear again!

This dress is my idea of dress perfection. The length is gorgeous and classy, the color is so easy to wear to many different events, and easy to accessorize and wear statement shoes with! The thick ruffles up top make the dress. I would love to own this one!

More casual, but equally as gorgeous! This dress is perfect for your night uptown on a rooftop patio, and would look darling dressed up with cheetah pumps, or dressed down with your birkenstocks or gold sandals. I think this is a good option for me to wear to my BFF’s birthday dinner! The price is amazing for this lovely pink frock.

Mixing patterns is one of my favorite trends I have started applying to my own wardrobe this spring and summer. Asos gives us a great print mixing option with just this one piece! I absolutely am obsessed with gingham, and really find it such as versatile pattern because the colors are neutrals and the print is smaller. The black and white floral detail though is what I think makes this dress a statement, in combination with the peplum bottom and sleeve detailing! I lovvvve this dress and would use it as a piece to help show/describe to someone what my style is! This shape looks so good on everyone and this piece can easily be worn into fall or winter with black tights and booties.

I hope you love my top 5 picks I found shopping this week. Seriously ladies, check out Asos for your dreamy dress needs. I promise you’ll find everything you need and more. 😉

CS Lewis on Christianity

CS Lewis, oh my gosh. This man is such an inspiration on how to live life anchored in Christ.

I have found overtime that so many of my all time favorite quotes (you guys know I’m a quotes junkie) are by this amazing man. I am sharing these with you because I believe they have such deep meaning to them and truly are perspectives and lessons we should as Christians, apply to our lives.

“The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because he loves us.”

“I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen; not only because I see it, but because I see everything else.”

“God can’t give us peace and happiness apart from Himself because there is no such thing.”

“If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probably explanation is that we were made for another world.”

“A man can no more diminish God’s glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word ‘darkness’ on the walls of his cell.”

“To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.”

“He died not for men, but for each man. If each man had been the only man made, He would have done no less.”

“True humility is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking of yourself less.”

“It is when we notice the dirt that God is most present in us; it is the very sign of his presence.”

“Look for yourself, and you will find in the long run only hatred, loneliness, despair, rage, ruin, and decay. But look for Christ and you will find Him, and with Him, everything else.”

“The more we let God take us over, the more truly ourselves we become – because He made us. He invented us. He invented all the different people that you and I were intended to be. It is when I turn to Christ, when I give myself up to His personality, that I first begin to have a real personality of my own.”

“As long as you are proud you cannot know God. A proud man is always looking down on things and people: and of course, as long as you are looking down you cannot see something that is above you.”

“Human history is the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy.”

“Relying on God has to begin all over again every day as if nothing had yet been done.”

“The great thing to remember is that though our feelings come and go, God’s love for us does not.”

I hope you feel as inspired by his words as I do, and I hope this made you smile! XO B

first year of college

Hi lovely readers, I am back after these past couple busy weeks wrapping up my first year of college at St. Thomas! After four finals and seemingly four hundred hours of studying… I am so glad to be home and have some time to relax.

I had to say goodbye for the summer to so many people I love and care about, and it was doing so that really lead me to reflecting on how amazing the past 9 months have been to me.

I wanted to share with you guys some of these blessings and lessons I have reflected on, in hopes that you can relate with me or learn something new.

one – Keep in touch with the people you have in your life back at home. I communicated frequently with my family and close friends all year round. It felt so nice to have people outside of campus that I could count on and talk to, and that whenever I needed a break from school or wanted to come home, I had people I love to come home to!

two –  Finding friends who lift you up, can make you laugh, and share the same morals as  you is a game changer. I can’t imagine having gone through this transitional year in my life without my amazing girlfriends. I am so lucky to be surrounded by women I share my love for God with.

three – Everyone can have their own unique and different college experience. Everyone goes into college looking to get different things out of the experience (and hopefully a degree by the end) but one thing I learned this year is that it really is okay to do something that maybe not everyone else wants to do, it is okay to do something just because you want to do it!

four – Get. Your. Schoolwork. Done. Sounds like a no brainer, but seriously the stresses of class, exams and busy work homework assignments can really add a lot of unnecessary stress to the other aspects of your life. As the semester went on, I found I was happiest when I was able to go out and have fun with my friends, enjoy dinners and movie nights without the stress of school constantly on my mind because I had already gotten my stuff done.

five – Getting involved and meet as many people as you can. The first month of school was so crazy and scary because everywhere I went, there was probably at least a hundred unfamiliar faces. I as someone who loves friendships and warm, smiley, familiar faces, hated feeling like I didn’t know anyone! By getting involved in clubs and going to church, I was able to meet people who had similar interests as me, and have formed so many amazing friendships I may not have had the opportunity to have if I wouldn’t have just put myself out there. Going into school as a freshman, everyone is in the same boat as you as far as not really knowing more than a handful of people. Smile, say hi to people and introduce yourself, you won’t regret it!

six – Spend some time alone. For your own sanity, allow yourself to separate yourself from the constant business of college and friends. I love silence and really grew to appreciate my time alone in a whole new way during college because it is so different than when you’re living at home. For me, my favorite things to do alone are reading my bible, writing cards/letters to friends and family, and listening to music and writing blog posts for you guys.

I can’t express enough how lucky and blessed I feel that I had such an amazing first year of college at University of St Thomas. I am already looking forward to the fall and football games and being with my favorite people at my all time favorite place on earth.

I have so many exciting things coming up in the next couple weeks. My (not so) baby sister is graduating high school, I am moving into my first apartment with one of my best friends, and I will be back at Mainstream working all the time.

Ending year 19 excited for the future and all that is to come!

Love + blessings
